Creating a website has never been simpler! A web site is a combination of a domain name and hosting. You can earn money online on your website by selling eBooks, Products and by showing advertisements. A website is essential for businesses as your customers can get hold of you or your business online. You can also create a website to show your portfolio (to present your projects) or even start an online store (eCommerce).
To get started you need to identify the purpose of your site. You can create a website for a company, organization, business or for a brand. Secondly, choose a name for your site so that your fans can find your content on the web. After identifying the purpose and naming your site, the next step is to choose a domain name for your website.
A domain name – is the part of a network address that identifies it as belonging to a particular domain (google definition). A domain is something like 34g3.com
Qualities of a domain name
- Brandable – Domain names that are pronounceable like NBC.com
- Memorable – Such domain names are easy to recall.
- Short – Short ones are easy to write and being short goes hand in hand with being memorable.
They don’t have punctuation marks(they’re made up of letters and numbers only). A .com domain extension is popular so you may consider registering one. When done choosing a domain name, You have to choose a good hosting platform. Mind you a domain name alone is not a website.
Host – store (a website or other data) on a server or other computer so that it can be shown on the internet.
Things To Consider When Choosing A Host
Bandwidth – measures the amount of data that is used by a website on the internet. An unlimited bandwidth will do.
Disk space – Is a storage for your content on the web.You can choose your disk space depending on how big or small your site is. A minimum of 500MB will do.
Price – Don’t overpay. Therefore to make sure you don’t, visit different hosting companies and compare their Hosting plans (features + price)
Support – How good is their support? Do they have a phone number? Email address? Live Chat support? A 24/7 support is needed in case you experience problems.
Backup – Does their Host backup your site’s files? If not then don’t choose them. A backup is needed in case your website/blog crashes.
That’s all you need to know. Here’s a list of good domain name registrars (cheap ones too) GoDaddy, WordPress, HostKing, Namecheap. For reliable and cheap hosting go with WordPress, HostKing, Namecheap and GoDaddy’s website builder.
