The South African Junior Chess Championships (SAJCC) is one of the premier junior sporting events of any sporting code in South Africa. The history of this tournament dates back more than 30 years. Read the about page in the SAJCC site by clicking here.

This event took place on the 16th – 23rd of December 2016 at the OR Tambo in Johannesburg. The SAJCC has three events namely the Team Event, WildCard event and the Inter Region event. The team event consists of different regions with six (6) to ten (10) players working as a team! The regional teams can play in different sections like section A, B, C and D. Section A has the strongest teams who use electronic chess boards.
The wildcard event includes individuals who compete to qualify for the South African Junior Chess Closed Championships (SAJCCC) that will take place in the year 2017. Lastly, The inter-region is more like the team event but each team consists of only four (4) players and one reserve.
Regions participating in the SAJCC team event championships are;
Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg Metro, Sedibeng, iLembe, Overberg, Ethekwini, Nkangala. South Western District, Buffalo City, Northern Cape, Gert Sibande, Western Cape. Mangaung, Nelson Mandela Bay, Tshwane Chess, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Chris Hani, Xhariap, Limpopo, Lejweleputswa, Bojanala Platina.
List of teams partaking in the SAJCC Inter-Region event are;
The A Team, Chess WP, Barbarians, Johannesburg Metro, Torpedos, Rebels. Western Province Jnrs, Beliebers, White Team, Vorster Force, Queens, Northern Cape. Ethekwini, King Attackers, King Catchers, All Stars, Little Knights, Magnus Trainers, The Passed Pawns.
