Catch the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Tournament running from 26 – 30 December 2016. The tournament will start with Rapid rounds from 26 – 28 December 2016. Blitz games will be played on the 29th and 30th December 2016 and later followed by a closing ceremony with prize giving.

The FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship tournament has started with 120 Male players and 36 female players. Males with titles like GMs, IMs, FMs and females with titles like GMs, WGMs, IMs, CM, WFMs will go head to head with each other. Keep in mind males will only play males and same thing with females.

It seems like the World Chess Grandmaster, Magnus Carlsen will still defend his title after retaining it against Sergey Karjakin. Surprisingly, Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana is not participating in this event. Who knows? maybe he is taking a break from chess and enjoying his holidays.

I’m still not sure why the Women’s Championship is not treated or handled as the Men’s Championship. I mean the Women’s Championship results and games are hard to find
on the internet! Not to mention their games being analyzed. Other than that, QatarChess has published a list of the participating women on their site.

Still no sign of Magnus Carlsen in the Top Five. He’s probably waiting for Blitz 🙂 GM Anton Korobov is no longer ranking #1 He is now on #6 with 7 points.
